Tuscan order has the fewest parts and appears to have the ability to bear the heaviest of loads. Classically the shaft is seven times the diameter and is not fluted.
Doric order has been typically seen without a base, like trees. Classically the shaft is eight times it's bottom diameter. The shaft can be plain or fluted by 20 shallow channels.
Ionic order classically has a shaft that is more than nine times its bottom diameter in length and is usually decorated with 24 semi-circular flutes separated by flat edges or fillets.
Corinthian order classically has a shaft that is ten times the bottom diameter. Some of the features of the column is that it is decorated with two tiers of eight stylized acanthus leaves, topped by volutes. The shaft can be plain or fluted.
Composite order is the same as the Corinthian order, but with more elaborate and ornate capitals.
